Puppets

For the challenge this week we ask that you talk to your child about the many different kinds of puppets and look at some pictures together. Your child will then need to design a finger puppet or stick puppet of their choice and bring this in on Monday. During the week your child will make their puppet design. If you have any additional material that your child would like to use to make their puppet, (sparkly or colourful material), please send that in also, in a bag clearly labelled with their name.

For health and hygiene reasons please do not send in any egg boxes, toilet rolls or packaging that has had any nuts or nut traces in.

The week will begin with a short clip from ‘Pinocchio’. We will look at and explore a range of puppets with time for the children to develop their own characters and stories. In addition to making their own puppet the children will have many opportunities to be creative and make puppets using different 2D and 3D materials. In cooking this week the children will be making a healthy ‘Pizza Puppet Face’. We look forward to showing you how much fun the children have as well as their wonderful creations on the Foundation Learning Page.

This week we have attached the Jolly Phonics actions sheet. If your child is in Foundation 1 they have now begun to learn the phase 2 sounds and have so far read the stories relating to the letters s, a, t p and i. You can support your child by practising the actions, saying the sounds and linking them to the letter shape at home or when you are out and about. The Jolly Phonics songs can be seen on ‘You Tube’ and free phonics games can be found on phonicsplay.co.uk. If your child is in Foundation 2 the Phase 3 actions can be found on the reverse of the sheet. If you have any questions about supporting your child with their phonics at home please do come and ask a member of the team.

**Please remember to send in your reply letter to your child’s Thank You note that they posted to you a few weeks ago.

F2 Parents: This week, to help the children learn how to behave appropriately when getting changed or when going to the toilets at school, we watched the NSPCC ‘Pantosaurus’ clip. You may have seen the recent adverts. It is recommended that you watch this at home and talk to your child about what private means and the importance of telling a trusted grown up if something happens that they do not like or are unsure about. There is a great parent pack available on the same page, just scroll down a bit.
