Ewan Saves the Day

The big day arrived. It was QPR v Southampton. I was really excited because it was QPR’ s first premier league match!!! I’d always wear my QPR goalie kit, (his name is Robert Green) to QPR’s Loftus Road Stadium. I also wore it at home, at Football Club and at the little park near my house. When I grow up I want to play in goal for QPR.

As we walked to our seats, there were people crowding round us. The pitch looked like a gigantic green field and the music was booming round the whole stadium. I gave my brother a big hug. “This might be one of the best games in the world!” I whispered. The blue seats were some of the best seats because we could see the whole pitch. Then it started. The first half flew by but QPR were already losing 1:2 and they’d used up all their substitutions. After 15 minutes the second half began. “I don’t think we have any more chances Daddy,” said Ewan.

“Don’ t worry, at least we’ve seen 3 goals,” Dad replied. Then after 10 minutes Robert Green and a Southampton player bumped heads. Robert Green had to go off hurt and the Southampton player got a bandage around his head.

As quick as a flash, I took off my coat and ran onto the pitch with my green, QPR goalie kit on. Nobody noticed! The crowd, the players, the fans, the commentators nor the referee. Only Dad, Dylan and the QPR Manager seemed to know I was there. The rest of the players just played on. Shots started coming straight at me. I dived, I jumped, I punched and even stuck my leg out to save one. Nothing got past me! In the crowd they just thought that the Southampton players were missing. I even finger tipped over a penalty. No one could believe their eyes!

It looked like the Southampton players had lost their minds. At the other end of the pitch things were different. Goals were going in. Not 1, not 2, not3 but 4 goals went in from QPR players. Everyone in the crowd was going mad, ok, MORE THAN MAD!!!!! There was shouting, screaming and even dancing in the seats. Southampton supporters were leaving but the QPR fans stayed until the end. It was party time at Loftus Road.

The whistle went. I got my coat on and walked back to my seat and still, no one said anything to me. I was confused and upset. I’d just won them the match! Then there was a tap on my shoulder. “See you next week lad,” said a voice. I looked round. It was Harry Redknapp, the QPR manager.

That night, Match Of The Day was on TV. We all sat round to watch the QPR v Southampton game. In the second half, I saw myself in goal, but no one else could see me. They just saw an empty spaceā€¦
