How did Vikings construct their longships?

The Vikings built longships; they used them for invading and especially trading.

The Longships could sail in shallow water, this gave them an opportunity to travel up rivers as well as across the sea.

How were Longships built?

The Vikings built their ships beside a river.

To make the keel they would have to cut a massive, tall oak tree.

They also used wooden pegs and iron rivets, this was done to fasten wooden pieces together.

To support the ribs and cross-beams, the builders cut short pieces as well as cutting long planks of wood for the sides.
