When J Banks arrived at the scene, at approximately 11:40am, it became clear to him that his three colleagues (Harvey Moon, Alex Duncan and Frankie Brown) were not there. To make matters worse, in the kitchen there was worrying content: an overturned chair, a stopped clock and a half-eaten meal.

The following day, a team of police and the employer thoroughly checked the island but there was still no sight of the three missing men. Although there was no trace of them, the police were puzzled by the one set of boots and a single raincoat left; it is a strict rule that only two out of three lighthouse keepers maximum are to be outside at the same time.

The employer explained how he felt strange knowing he was the last person to see the men and shake hands with.

On Thursday 16th May 2019, the lighthouse on Eilean Mor (the Flannel Isles) appeared to be deserted when John Bank discovered the situation.

This matter came to light when several ships reported that the lighthuse light was not functioning. It was not taken into further investigations within the day - 12th May - for the relief keeper was due to set sail in seventy-two hours.

However, Bank's trip was postponed due to bad weather. He quoted on this mystery, 'It is virtually unheard of for lighthouse keepers to allow the light to go out like that.'
