When Lyras friend Roger disappears,she and her daemon, Pantalaimon have to find him.
They have to go to the North where armoured bears rule the ice and the witch queens fly through the frozen skies and also where a team of scientists is conducting experiments to horrible to be spoken of.Lyra is given a alethiometer from the master who used to live with Lyra in Jordan Collage until she got moved to stay with horrible Mrs.Coulter
who at first was a lovely woman until she got to the north she turned into a ghastly warty witch and took the alethiometer of her.
My favourite part of the story so far is when Lyra finds herself in the North and is being kidnapped by these scary big bears and that Mrs.Coulter just turned into a witch and knows lots about the north because she actually live in the North! Also when Lyra found out that she is keeping hundreds of children slaves foe a terrible experiment and that one of them is Roger!
The writter (Phillip Pullman) has very good imagination,and description.This is a fantasy book.I like the way everyone has a deamon which can turn into any sort of creature.It protects the owner of them. Mrs.Coulters deamon is a golden monkey and that is why the children get in a trance by a beautiful golden monkey and thats how they get kidnapped.I thought that was a very good idea.The story is a trio so I am looking forward for the other books aswell! I like Philip Pullman I think he is definetely one of my favourite writers because I like Mystery,Fantasy,Adventure and all of them are non-fiction!
I havent read anymore but .....Can she find roger?What can the alethiometer do?Can she get home safely?What it got to do with Dust or Northern Lights? I am going to finish the book but its very long so thats why I havent finished it yet!
