My Volcano Pages
My Volcano Pages
Following the splendid iPad training at Cleeve a week or 3 ago, I wondered what could be replicated using J2E, as it runs on all platforms and therefore is 'device agnostic'. I know it won't do some of the things we did on the day, but am equally sure it will do things we didn't/couldn't.
Naturally, this won't help folk decide on which tablet to choose, or whether a tablet is the best option, but it's more to show what can be done in J2E and maybe not rely on a number of specific apps.
I'm more comfortable with using software that works across any device and isn't tablet specific. I also want something that lets me, as a teacher, get access to the pupils work easily. The J2E suite fits this bill to a point, and will fit it more as JIT moves away from flash and to HTML5, so all their products will work across all devices.
So, what can't I do that we did on the day?
Well, I can't find a non-iPad equivalent of Morfo app. It's not the end of the world, but it would have been a fun thing to have.
See later on for a solution.
Obviously I can't publish this to iTunes, but I can publish it to the web, so I have my audience. It's not eBook format, but one could argue that as it's a web page, it's more accessible that way.
Well, so far this has been done on a laptop. Time to do the next bit on a tablet. I nabbed the image from Google, where else! I still find manipulating pages on touch screens a tad fiddly, even more so on 7" screens, but then again, compared to pupils, I do have rather cumbersome digits.

Update: I'm back at the laptop as I'm more efficient that
way, but can do all this on both iPad and Samsung Galaxy... and my Chromebook. One piece of work: 4 devices so far. Make that 5.Just typed this bit on an MS Surface.

The 5 Volcano Eruptions with the Most Casualties
Although looking like a dangerous place to be, the last eruption in Indonesia was in 1883, so not too bad for the tourist trade.
One thing that is quite a novelty is that because I was logged in on my laptop and 2 tablets, any changes I made on one, were instantly shown on the other two.
Which reminds me that at St Nicholas there are 2 pupils trying something out for me on J2E, and that is collaborative working on the same document. I've shared it with the 2 of them and they're tasked with jointly producing a page on their current topic. I've seen loads of work on display by x, y and z, but really it's been 3 folk round 1 PC and all chipping in. J2E allows multi-user access to the same document, which really is collaborative working.

My Volcano Animation
OK, it's not great and it's actually done in JIT, not J2E, but I was on a roll!
crater
ash cloud
conduit
magma chamber
lava flow

And finally..... One of the things I was unable to replicate was to create a video in the Morfo app and upload that to a J2E document.
However, over the summer the J2E iPad app was upgraded to allow video uploads.
So, without further delay, here is my Morfo created masterpiece.
