Book Review



The name of the book is 'The Witches'. The author's name is Roald Dahl and the illustrator's name is Quentin Blake. The main characters are the boy and the grandma while the secondary characters are the Grand High Witch, Mr and Mrs Jenkins, Mr Stringer and their child Bruno Jenkins.


This long and very interesting book is about an orphanage boy whose parents had died with an accident. His grandmother who was from Norway became his carer. Once, they went into a magnificent hotel during Summer holidays. During his stay the boy attended a meeting, in which he later realised that these were all witches who held their Annual Meeting in this particular hotel every year. His grandma told him that in Norway there were a lot of witches who travelled also to England to get rid of children and turn them all into mice.


Whilst hiding under the stage, the boy saw all the witches removing their wigs, gloves and shoes and became really ugly, terrifying and scary. During this meeting a boy named Bruno who was in the hotel came interrupting and they turned him into a mouse. Till the the end of the meeting even the boy himself was transformed as he hid under the stage and the witches smelled him. They discussed a poison called 'Formula 86 Delayed Action Mouse Maker' to get rid of all the children near the hotel and village during those summer holidays.
